麥考爾的創作深受極簡主義與觀念藝術影響,亦和1970年代的實驗表演、結構電影發展脈絡緊密相關。如今,麥考爾的重要性已廣受國際肯定,他的個展於世界各地美術館舉辦,包括近期在義大利的維納利亞宮(La Reggia di Venaria)(2025年)、韓國的Futura Seoul(2025年)、英國的泰特現代美術館(Tate Modern)(2024年)及西班牙的畢爾包古根漢美術館(Guggenheim Bilbao)(2024年)等皆有展出。
